JOB DESCRIPTION:

This opportunity is for a flexible and self-motivated individual that is willing to learn and grow as part of a team by providing technical support to projects within the Water Quality Compliance Service Area of the Sediment and Risk Assessment (SRA) Service Line. You will be joining a high-performance team of ecologists, risk assessors, and toxicologists that is focused on providing high-quality technical and strategic solutions to a variety of clients. The selected candidate will primarily support SRA Service Line efforts focused on ecological risk assessment, sediment and surface water assessment and remediation, biodiversity and ecological services, Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA), and water quality compliance.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and leading field-based investigations of multiple environmental media (e.g., surface water, pore water, sediment, soil, and biological communities) in various aquatic and terrestrial habitats.
  • Ensuring field projects are conducted in accordance with investigation work plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyzing environmental data in support of investigation objectives.
  • Preparing technical deliverables and presentations for effective communication of investigation findings.
  • Managing financial project performance and maintaining work within scope and budget.

Typical managerial responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing project execution plans.
  • Participating in project strategy discussions with technical team members and clients.
  • Working with internal resources to identify appropriate staffing and skillsets and define roles and responsibilities of project team members.
  • Establishing timelines and maintaining regular communications with the project team to ensure timely deliverables.
  • Reviewing project reports and taking corrective measures to ensure quality work products or address challenges.
  • Managing financial project performance and maintaining work within scope and budget.
  • Understanding all project aspects, including objectives, scope of work, technical requirements, regulatory framework, and contract compliance and communicating these items to project team members.
  • Reviewing project invoices and adhering to internal quality control procedures
  • Mentoring and upskilling of junior staff.
  • Maintaining communications with clients or internal client managers on progress via written and verbal communications

Experience in one or many of the following focus areas is preferred:

  • Sediment, surface water, and pore water investigation design and execution
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting experience.
  • Complex data analysis skills using R or similar programmatic language.
  • Watershed and stormwater hydrology and/or open channel hydraulics.
  • Fish/invertebrate tissue quality assessments.
  • Aquatic ecotoxicity experimentation and water quality criteria derivation.

Skills required for success in this role include:

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in environmental science, biology, hydrology, ecology, natural resources, or related field of study
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in environmental consulting or similar work experience
  • Ability to design and implement field-based environmental investigations
  • Experience analyzing and reporting environmental data
  • An understanding of environmental regulations and guidance under state and federal programs (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA)
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office software, R, or other statistical software.
