Description Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Program Description: The Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) is a unique and nontraditional licensed outpatient psychiatric clinic for adults who have demonstrated a high service need with multiple hospitalizations, emergency room visits and difficulty maintaining stability in the community with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). ACT is a nationally recognized model and an evidence-based practice. The ACT Team serves All of Manhattan and occasionally the outer boroughs.
Purpose of Position: The Employment Specialist is responsible for developing and managing new employer accounts within various job markets to create employment opportunities for the Young Adult and Legacy ACT clients The Employment Specialist provides career exploration, targeted job coaching and support to program participants, preparing them for success in their chosen field. Utilizing the Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) model,the Employment Specialist works in a team to develop both job placements and retention supports with the goal of developing a career path and achieving greater self-sufficiency and independence for ACT clients.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Salary Range: $49,000 - $54,000
Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate's number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account. Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties - Assess the status of participants' benefits (specifically SSI/SSDI) to determine the potential impact of work; support clients with benefits navigation, money management, financial planning
- Identify local resources that can support employment-related needs
- Conduct intakes, screenings, vocational assessments, individual/group counseling, job development, and job coaching for ACT team clients
- Meet with employers regularly to learn their needs and provide education on the value of hiring individuals with disabilities
- Work with clients and employers to resolve issues in the workplace
- Assist ACT individuals in negotiating reasonable accommodations
- Assist clients in developing resumes and completing job applications
- Provide intensive employment supports and job retention services for individuals
- Write notes in AWARDS and other data base systems
- Prepare all mandated reporting as required by supervisor, contract agency and funding agency
Qualifications/Educational Requirements - Bachelor's degree in a human service field
- One year of experience in vocational counseling and workforce development preferred
- An ability to travel independently, or with reasonable accommodations, throughout the community and outreach with local employers
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities - Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness
- Enthusiastic team player with a strong belief in rehabilitation and recovery
- Experience developing job opportunities and employer accounts
- Strong clinical skills
- Vocational rehabilitation experience preferred.
- Bilingual English&/Spanish or French/other language preferred
- Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be :
- Able to work in the Microsoft Office Suite, should especially be proficient in Word, Outlook and Excel
- Able to work remotely and assist participants with remote job searches, applications and interviews
- Able to use teleconferencing software including Zoom to schedule and host remote meetings; able to teach clients how to utilize these tools
- Able to use or learn to use AWARDS database
- Able to use or learn other electronic databases, programs, and funder-related software as needed, e.g. NYCMED Portal, NYESS, ACCES-VR
Physical Requirements - Must be able to conduct visits of job sites
- Frequent walking between work sites
- 50% of work hours will be conducted in the community
