Summary of Position:

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks qualified candidates to teach courses in Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology, and/or other Anthropology courses in keeping with instructor qualifications and department demand. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants maybe be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
The position requires a combination of online and face-to-face instruction on the Big Rapids, MI campus. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 2023 at the earliest and January 2024 at the latest.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:

Ph.D. or ABD in Anthropology or closely related discipline.

Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education.

Experience working with diverse populations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Teach general education and program-required courses in Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, and/or other Anthropology courses as required by the department and depending on candidate interest and qualifications.

Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials.

Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.

Keep office hours at times convenient for students.

Meet with classes at their scheduled times.

Effective teaching by way of good communication, assessment of student learning, and adaptation to various levels of student preparation.

Carry out teaching and professional development responsibilities under the supervision of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department Chair and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (or their designee).

Responsibilities include maintaining the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities that may include continuing professional development; participation in curriculum development and university committees; orientation, recruitment, and registration of students; keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
